McCASKILL NAMED ROCKPORT ART FESTIVAL POSTER ARTIST

ROCKPORT, TX -- Hal McCaskill, a life long resident of the Texas Gulf Coast, has been named the Poster Artist for the 37th Annual Rockport Art Festival.  His watercolor rendering of “The Old Rockport Harbor” was selected to promote this year’s festival by a special panel of judges, who reviewed the work of dozens of nominated artists. When informed of his selection, the normally loquacious artist was modest about the special recognition bestowed upon him.  “It’s truly an honor,” McCaskill noted.  “Painting is something I like to do … so I do it.  “I’ve lived here all my life and I love this area,” he stated.  “It means a lot to me that people who can’t live here are at least able to experience Rockport through my paintings.”

A self-taught artist, his bright visions of bait stands, boats and wide open vistas make him one of the most popular of Gulf Coast artists.

McCaskill’s technique combines the traditional methods of working with watercolors, coupled with a loose Impressionist style infused with his own personal touch.

While his subjects can range from the rugged brush country of deep South Texas to the rainy reflections of an urban street scene, it is his Gulf Coast scenes that have made him such a universally popular artist.

His paintings are in private collections throughout the U.S. and over a dozen different countries.  Currently is work is on display at The Gallery of Rockport.

McCaskill and his art will be feted at a special reception at the Rockport Center of the Arts on June 17th.

At that time, the Art Festival poster will be on sale.

Sponsored by the Rockport Center for the Arts, the festival will be held July 1st and 2nd.

Held on the bay and under the bright striped tents, the festival features the work of over 125 fine artists and master craftsmen, children’s art activities, entertainment and refreshments.  In conjunction with the festival, 17 art galleries in Rockport’s Heritage District will hold open houses.

A non-profit organization, the Rockport Center for the Arts is dedicated to providing an environment that nurtures the expression and appreciation of art for residents and tourists alike.
