For Immediate Release

ROCKPORT, TX --  George Boutwell, the 2006 Official Texas State Artist, will lead a watercolor workshop October 9 – 11 at the Rockport Center for the Arts, located at 902 Navigation Circle overlooking the Rockport harbor.  The three-day workshop will focus on painting problems and ideas concerning painting and watercolor landscapes.  Boutwell will share his own career experiences and philosophy of art while coaching students on how to improve their own artistic skills.  The cost is $250 for members and $275 for non-members.

A resident of Clifton, TX, Boutwell was born in East Hartford, CT and has spent most of his life in the Austin area.

Too poor to afford art lessons, Boutwell read every art book available and practiced continually to become a professional commercial artist, including a position as Art Director for Texas Highways Magazine.  As a result of his success, he was able to take a correspondence course in Fine Art, which helped him make the full-time transition to Fine Art in 1973. Boutwell’s work has been featured in numerous travel, association and art publications.  His paintings are in many private and corporate collections including the Baseball Hall of Fame, Dr. Pepper Co., University of Texas and the Texas Pharmacy Foundation. A non-profit organization, the Rockport Center for the Arts is dedicated to providing an environment that nurtures the expression and appreciation of art for residents and tourists alike.  To make a reservation for the workshop, or for more information on upcoming exhibitions and art classes, please call 361-729-5519.
