2014 Resident Artist: Diane Pike

Diane Pike is known for her confident, sharp and colorful plein air paintings. Pike received her degree in Fine Art from the University of Northern Colorado where she studied printmaking and graphic design, then worked for 10 years as a graphic designer in Denver. After a painting class in 2002, her talent rose quickly as she began to exhibit, win awards, and teach workshops.

Pike's Rockport debut was a solo show in the Garden Gallery in 2009, where she also led an informal plein-air paint-out and critique session. Pike has returned every year since to teach an often full plein air workshop. In 2011 Pike led a painting class to Ghost Ranch in New Mexico, taking several Rockport artists with her.

In March 2014, Pike will return to Rockport for a three-week residency to include a solo exhibition and a free workshop for members. Pike will also curate a collection of her student's work for the Garden Gallery.

“I have been fortunate enough to come to Rockport every spring for several years to teach a Plein Air workshop," says Pike. "The artists I have met and painted with are one of the main reasons I keep coming back, along with the beautiful landscapes, the water, the palm trees and of course, the oysters. I am looking forward to an extended stay this spring---more time to paint, see old friends, meet new ones and to teach. I am honored to have been selected as Artist In Residence this year.”

Pike's residency will run March 23 - April 12, 2014. She will exhibit a solo show of recent work, lead a free workshop for members, and curate a show of her students' work in the Garden Gallery, which will open with a gallery talk and reception on Saturday, April 12.
