RCA Remembers Joan Sumners Lee
  • Joan S. Lee passed away April 2, 2015 in Rockport, Texas at the age of 92. She was born November 5, 1922 in Lueders, Texas to Dowdell and Ruth Burrow Jordan. Joan graduated with a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts from Baylor University. She was a prominent Rockport artist who has many pieces of art displayed at the Presbyterian Church in San Antonio and in Rockport and various artifacts at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Thomas D. Sumners; daughter, Cristina Sumners; half-sister, Gail. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her husband of 24 years, Lynn M. Lee; son, Thomas David Sumners, II of Austin; stepsons, Randall Lee (Marti) of Burke, VA, Ronald Lee (Nemalyn) of Louisville, KY; daughters, Ruth Sumners of Austin, Susan Alloway of Rockport; brother, Dr. Wylie Jordan of Acapulco, MX; son in law, Colin Nicholls of Taos, NM; half-sister, Frankie Harrington; grandchildren, Nicholas Kaufman, Tim Martin; step grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Hannah and Joshua Lee; great grandchild, River Kaufman. The family wishes to thank the dedicated nurses and staff of Oak Crest Nursing Center and Harbor Hospice for their professional, kind, compassionate care given to Joan. Memorial service will be held at 12:30p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church of Rockport. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Joan’s honor to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Rockport Center for the Arts or church or charity of your choice.
