July in the Gallery: 2016 Poster Artist, Joey Blazek
ARTIST JOEY BLAZEK, SELECTED AS POSTER ARTIST FOR PRESTIGIOUS ROCKPORT ART FESTIVAL

ART FESTIVAL TO BE HELD ON THE FESTIVAL GROUNDS NEAR ROCKPORT HARBOR CELEBRATES ITS 47TH EDITION JULY 4TH WEEKEND

ROCKPORT, TX.  Beaumont artist, Joey Blazek has been selected as the 2016 Rockport Art Festival Poster Artist.  Born in 1954, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a specialization in graphic design from Lamar University.  Following a successful career as a creative director, illustrator, and photographer in advertising for Vance-Mathews, Inc., Blazek started a namesake design firm in the 1980s where he created and produced print and electronic media for clients in Texas and Louisiana. All the while, he continued to explore his love of life drawing and painting.

“In recent years,” Blazek states “I have come full-circle and returned to my love of painting, directing to the canvas the instinct, energy and experience I employed in graphic design.”  Blazek uses oils on canvas to create animated, impressionistic images of Texas coastal, ranching, and industrial landscapes.

Blazek’s work is well known to art collectors in Rockport as well as Art Festival visitors.  He is represented by Estelle Stair Gallery on Austin St. and received “Best of Show” honors in the 2013 edition of the Art Festival.  Last year, he was selected as poster artist for the Gulfcoast Arts Festival in Pensacola, Florida.

When asked about coastal living, Blazek remarks "Growing up on the Texas gulf Coast has provided me with a wealth of inspiration for my work and a great appreciation for its coastal and industrial landscape. My entire family worked in the oil and marine business, and I spent every chance I could 'at-the-beach' surfing, sailing, fishing and enjoying all it has to offer. I paint what I know, and I have known and loved the Texas Gulf Coast my entire life."

His solo exhibition at the Art Center will feature over 30 original works.  It opens to the public Saturday, June 18 with a gallery talk at 4:30 PM.  A reception with the artist will follow from 5 to 7 PM.  The exhibition continues through July 31, 2016.

A signature painting will be chosen as the official image of the 47th Annual Rockport Art Festival poster.  The poster will be released at the opening reception on June 18, where Blazek will sign limited edition copies. Posters will be available for sale throughout the Art Festival on July 2nd and 3rd.  Remaining posters will be available for sale at the Art Center.

The original framed work of art will be live-auctioned at the Art Auction Party, held just prior to the Art Festival, on July 1st.
