New Director of Visual Arts Announced


Rockport, TX. Rockport Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the appointment of Taylor J. Hendrix as Director of Visual Arts, with immediate effect. 

Hendrix was born in Oklahoma yet spent his formative years primarily in Germany- the son ofa military family. Hendrix and his wife Dr. Marsha Hendrix have called Rockport home for the past twelve years.  Dr.Hendrix is the Site Manager for the Fulton Mansion, a State of Texas historic site.

Hendrix assumed the role of Director of Operations at the Art Center in 2012 but has been employed at the Art Center since 2010,initially hired as a Program Assistant.

“During two recent vacancies in the post in 2015 and 2016, Taylor has proven himself quite capable of handling the many responsibilities of the position which involve curating and promoting exhibits,” said Luis Purón, Executive Director. 

In May of last year he executed the hanging of Billie Keen’s Sacred Voices and Rita Kirkman’s Beauty of the Beast. In February he curated and installed the Clay Expo exhibit for Vorakit Chinookoswong. “Those exhibits were huge financial successes for the Art Center,” Purón said.  Hendrix also handled the Rising Eyes of Texas and Kay Barnebey exhibitions, and the recent installation of the Danville Chadbourne sculptural triptych which will be dedicated next month.

“During my seven-year tenure, I have been directly involved in the hanging and striking of over sixty exhibitions in the Art Center Galleries. I have played a major role in maintaining the gallery spaces and equipment and have solved many installation challenges,” Hendrix remarked.When asked about the growth of the Art Center, he said “I care a great deal about the future of the Art Center and I am determined to play an important role.”

Hendrix obtained a Master of Arts degree from Baylor University in Waco, and a Bachelor of Arts in English (cum laude) and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas.
