ROCKPORT, TX – Ceramic artist Nanci Barnes has been named the 2007 Poster Artist for the 38th Annual Rockport Art Festival.  She was selected to promote next year’s festival by a special panel of judges, who reviewed the work of dozens of nominated artists. “It’s been 10 years since a 3-D artist has been recognized with this honor,” noted Pam Fulcher, art director for the Rockport Center of the Arts.  “It speaks to her level of talent and accomplishment, that the previous 3-D poster artist was Jesus Moroles.”  In addition to her work appearing on Festival posters and T-shirts, Barnes will be honored with a solo exhibition and reception in July. A 30-year Rockport resident, Barnes began dabbling in clay 35 years ago after taking a course at the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts. From there was born a passion that has carried her from a hobbyist to a much sought-after, commissioned artist. Working primarily with high-fired stoneware, she fashions an array of creative wonders.  Her interest in architectural ceramics is evidenced in private collections and commissions of fireplace surround, light fixtures and fountains.

Barnes’ influence is fixed life forms and her works have been described as “love letters to nature.”

Her work has been shown at the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, Wilhelmi Holland Gallery, Rockport Center for the Arts and the San Antonio Junior League.
