John Aasp Joins Art Center as Director of Visual Arts

ROCKPORT CENTER FOR THE ARTS

NAMES NEW DIRECTOR OF VISUAL ARTS

ROCKPORT, TEXAS -- 

John Aäsp, a multimedia artist, has been named Director of Visual Arts for The Rockport Center for the Arts.  In this position he will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Art Center’s visual arts programs; planning and installation of all exhibitions; be a member of the Exhibition Committee, RCA Strategic Planning and Sculpture Garden Committees; provide leadership for all art-related areas of the Rockport Art Festival; and will continue to build relationships with artists, art gallery managers and art patrons in Rockport. 

“John brings a wealth of experience and some exciting opportunities to Rockport,” noted Beverly Morgan, the Art Center’s executive director. 

“We were quite captivated by his energy and his ideas for expanding the scope of programs and exhibitions offered by the Art Center.”

Aäsp received undergraduate degrees in Mass Communication from Angelo State University and Art from the University of Iowa, as well as a Master of Fine Arts degree in Imaging Arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

He has managed and curated gallery spaces, taught undergraduate courses in photography, and has freelanced as a digital editor, videographer, web designer and still photographer. 

Over the past year his work has been presented at Ritual and Repetition at the Richmond Center for Visual Arts and the Tenth Annual Film & Video Festival at the Museum of New Art, both in Michigan; the International Video Festival in Portugal; Vernacular Spectacular at the University of Pennsylvania; and many other national and international venues.
