Go See Some Art
A Message from Luis Purón, Executive Director
Dear Art Patrons,
Many of you have had a chance to visit the galleries for some amazing exhibitions since we opened our doors December 10 of last year.
The current exhibition, Birds in Art presented by the Reserve at St. Charles Bay, has been met with sustained critical acclaim by the dozens of visitors that walk through the gallery everyday. The show, currently on view through April 23 in the H-E-B Gallery, is coming down to make way for a new exhibit.
The next exhibit, Confluence by border artist, Fernando Andrade, is something the Exhibition Committee has been working on for several years. A masterful illustrator, Andrade will be featuring emotive abstract paintings and charcoal drawings that tell stories about his experiences and artistic journey. The show is brought to you thanks to the generosity of Neiland Sammons II.
I am also excited to see new colorful landscapes by local artist Lynne Ruf in the McKelvey Charitable Fund Gallery, and metal sculptures by Brian Wedgworth in the Jeanie and Bill Wyatt gallery. In the Mendez Family Gallery, a new members exhibition will be installed that celebrates collage as an art form.
Our visual arts program has come a long way in the past ten years. With the new facilities we can showcase more artists than ever before.
In next month’s column, I will be sharing some news about new additions to the permanent collection. You can enjoy selections from the permanent collection throughout the new and improved Rockport Center for the Arts.
Happy Spring!
Luis Purón
Executive Director
