Beauty of Gentleness
Work by Glenda Pivaral
Glenda Pivaral’s solo show Beauty of Gentleness will be hosted in RCA’s Galería Dos, featuring a collection of child-like abstracted bodies, animals, and plants using ceramics to explore the psychological relationships between humans and nature.
“My sculptures show the beauty of gentleness, an integrated balance between humans and nature, as well as a moment of harmonious cohabitation between my conscious and my subconscious mind,” said Pivaral. “Most importantly, in all my designs, I seek to remember kindness is an innate part of nature, no matter how bizarre or brutal life can be.”
Born in Santa Rosa Guatemala, the East Texas-based Pivaral received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2020 with a concentration in 3D Studio Art and a minor in Art History from Sam Houston State University where she is currently an MFA candidate in Art and Social Practice. The insects, earthworms, gourds, coffee, corn, rope, and the clay itself used in her work are all symbols related to her childhood in Guatemala’s countryside culture, which deeply inspire her practice. Birds also occupy a special place in Pivaral’s art, symbolizing perseverance, patience, resilience, and the mystical majesty of nature.
