The Texas Women for the Arts Awards $27,000 Grant to Rockport Center for the Arts Youth Arts Education
The Texas Cultural Trust’s Texas Women for the Arts recently awarded Rockport Center for the Arts a grant in the amount of $27,000. The funds will be used to support the rental of temporary portable classrooms for the 2019 Youth Arts Education Programming in Rockport, Fulton, and Aransas County. Since Hurricane Harvey, the organization has resorted to leasing space to carry out an ambitious calendar of events, programs, and exhibitions. The grant was approved at Texas Commission on the Arts’ quarterly board meeting in late June.
"We are grateful to the Texas Women for the Arts for their generous grant and their recognition of the importance of our mission,” says Luis Purón, Executive Director. Education Director, Karen Ernst, adds “We are thrilled to be the recipient of this significant grant. These funds are providing valuable resources to sustain and grow our youth education programming, helping us provide access to high quality arts education to all Aransas County children. In particular this funding will provide a physical home for our Free Family Saturdays and Artspace, our free summer camp for kids and teens. We are forever grateful.”
Texas Women for the Arts features more than 300 dynamic women from across the state who are dedicated to ensuring every child has access to vital arts and arts education programs. Each year, Texas Women for the Arts members meet in a different Texas city for art experiences and to grant much needed funds to arts education programs.
