About the Class:
March 31st
Dance Instructor, Olivia Awsumb from Corpus Christi who will assist with the demonstration
12:45 PM - 1:35 PM Along with a simple demonstration of Ballroom Waltz, I will cover the major elements of Ballroom dancing from basic footwork patterns, hand placements, timing, & shaping the figure of head and arms. Everyone who shows will be able to dance the waltz basic box which is fundamental to partner dancing.
2:00 PM - 2:50 PM Along with a demonstration of Argentine Tango, I will again cover the major elements from the previous lesson for any new faces. If no new faces I will jump straight into the free beginner tango lesson. Which will include posture, hand placements, footwork, etc.
Argentine Tango order of teaching: Heel/toe leads/releases, staying level and balanced, cross step, patience and learning to play with the 8 count.
April 7
Day 1
Students will break into an open formation giving everyone space for moving around independently. I will cover the 5 basic footwork patterns known as walking steps, side steps, rock steps, triple steps, & ending with a box step transitioning into the Ballroom Waltz basic technique (still independently).
The five foot pattern elements of Ballroom dance help prepare students for the major six dances that are danced in American Smooth dances and American Rhythm dances.
● Smooth: Walt, Foxtrot, Tango. (We will be learning Argentine Tango instead of American)
● Rhythm: Rumba, Cha Cha, Swing
Dancers will partner up and continue the process with music. Partners will learn to hold each other in a proper frame using correct posture. We will be rotating partners throughout the period of instruction. If anyone does not wish to rotate and remain with their current partner they may be skipped in rotation.
April 14
Day 2
Dancers will quickly review the basics as a warmup leading back into the Ballroom Waltz. Next will be the slow underarm turn for the ladies and learning to rotate the box step for the gentlemen.
NO CLASS APRIL 21ST
April 28th
Day 3
Dancers will repeat the process reviewing the basics and proper frame/posture as a warmup leading back into the ballroom waltz box step and the slow underarm.
May 5th
Day 4
Dancers will review then learn the progressive waltz putting everything together and practicing while rotating partners learning to lead/follow and have fun with the movements learned.

What to Wear:
Remember you are coming to exercise for at least an hour. For the series it is 1.5 hours. So expect to sweat a little. Dancers should wear comfortable, breathable clothing that does not hinder movement yet is still appropriate. No Gym attire, please. Proper dance shoes are recommended, but not required. Avoid rubber soled shoes as they will grip too much and may cause injuries. (Suede bottom: best, Leather bottom: good, if nothing else socks are ok for practicing.)
