Silversmithing 101 - Sawing
Learning how to use a jeweler's saw is a vital first step in the jewelry making process. It takes a bit of finesse to use a saw properly and enjoy the sawing process.
In this class, you will learn about saw frames, blades, the proper setup for using your saw, how the saw is supposed to feel in your hand, and proper tension on the blade. You learn how to properly move the metal as you are sawing.
Once you have practiced and are comfortable with the process, we will move on to making earrings. You will have several sterling earring blanks to chose from. With these blanks, you will cut out a beautiful pair of earrings, finish the edges, make your own ear wires, patina your piece, and finish them to the shine you desire.
This is a fun beginner class where you will walk away with a pair of lovely sterling silver earrings.
Materials cost is $20 to be paid to instructor at beginning of class
About the Instructor:
I dove into silversmithing 6 years ago, primarily self-taught. Learning how to etch gave her pieces texture. Discovering that she could use her own mandala patterns in her jewelry allowed her to "Gain my own voice in my pieces".
Her work brings balance to her life and happiness to her soul.
Her collections can be viewed at Studio C Gallery in Corpus Christi, Port Aransas Art Center and Padre Island Art Gallery.
