Course Description:

During this two week session workshop we will create a likeness of a bust of your fur baby using the grid method. In addition to ended up with a great painting of your beloved pet, you will also leave the class with a better knowledge of gouache, how to use it and its benefits. Acrylic Gouache is an opaque watercolor, so you get the flow of watercolor with the opacity of an acrylic paint. This is going to be a laid back, fun workshop. Please feel free to not limit yourself to dogs, all types of pet portraits can be achieved in this workshop.

Supply List:

  • Holbein Acrylic Gouache: Napthol Red, Hansa Yellow, Permanent Orange, Cerulean Blue, White, Black, Transparent Earth Orange (Instructor recommends this set with an extra tube of white https://www.dickblick.com/products/holbein-acrylic-gouache/) Similar colors may be substituted.

  • Heavy duty rag paper or Bristol board, 11”x14”

  • 8”x 10” reference photo of pet

  • 8”x10” canvas

  • 0/2 brush

  • 0 brush

  • 1 brush

  • 6 brush

  • Container for water and paper towels

  • Paper plates for pallets

Cancellation Policy:

In order to receive a refund, cancellation notice must be given at least 2 weeks, September 30th at 5:00 pm, prior to the start of the workshop. If given the required 2 weeks notice you will receive a refund of your tuition minus a cancellation fee of $25.00. Cancellations made within 2 weeks of the start of the workshop will result in a full forfeiture.

About the Instructor: Emmet Duggan
Duggan is a professional artist and educator that recently relocated to Rockport. Duggan describes his work as “Playing with simple things in Fun abstractions and Lovingly made photo realism.” Duggan’s expertise is in oil and gouache painting.
