March 5 | 10 AM - 2PM (or until firing is complete)
620 E Market Street In Rockport, Texas.

Supplies included.

Raku is the art of firing pottery very quickly and pulling it from the kiln at the height of firing while it is glowing hot.  The work is then placed into reduction chambers with combustible materials creating unique colors and markings.  In session one, students will build pottery pieces and learn safety practices for firing.  In session two, students will glaze and fire the work created in session one.  Each student may fire 2 pieces of work approximately 6” X 6”.

The techniques learned in this workshop will be a starting point for students to embark on their individual raku adventures.

Supplies:  The instructor will supply all materials for this workshop and the supply fee is included in the tuition.  Students are welcome to bring their personal tools for building/throwing.

About Vivian Rood

Vivian Rood has been playing in mud for years.  She makes small batch, one of a kind pottery in her garage studio in Rockport.  Her preferred method is an alternative firing technique known as Western Raku.  She enjoys the creative experimentation of the raku reduction processes:  basic, saggar, horse hair and feather or ferrich chloride fumed.  Vivian is excited to share her passion for this creative adventure that she continues to explore.
