Printmaking 101: Relief Printing and Beyond

Class description:
“Students can expect to learn how to transfer an image; how to prime the carving matrix; how to mix ink to create an ink “slab”; and how to create a variety of marks using different tools and patterns.
Additionally, we will be printing an edition of 8, 9inx13in prints. This will be achieved either by hand-printing with a baren or via the relief press. Students can also expect to receive training on chine collé gluing processes.

About the Instructor:
Joey Gonzales IV
A recent graduate of Texas A&M Corpus Christi University, Joey explores different facets of identity through printmaking and ceramic mediums with artworks ranging from large- and small-scale prints to ceramic sculptures that are packed with intriguing line work, bold color composition, and strong elements of personal narration.
For nearly a decade, Joey’s art practice has included curating art shows in Corpus Christi, participating in shows across the country, and gaining recognition for contributions to Latinx art and culture. In 2024, Joey’s print, “Dream Eater” was printed and archived by Texas A&M Kingsville in conjunction with the Kingsville Ranch Hand Festival. Joey has been a featured artist for the past 4 years in the Bend magazine.
