Painting the Landscape in Pastel

with Neva Rossi Smoll

Tuesdays, April 19-May 10, 2022 | 9:30AM-12:30PM
638 E Market Street In Rockport, Texas.

This pastel workshop is designed for the beginning and intermediate pastelist and will cover materials, basic design, color and application. Some materials will be supplied. There will be a short demonstration at the beginning of each class, followed by individual easel time. This is a great opportunity to learn the fundamentals of pastel painting, or to take your basic knowledge to another level. Expect plenty of encouragement and actionable advice.

Instructor Bio

Born in Laredo, Texas, Neva grew up not far from there in the small ranching town of Hebbronville. Neva’s work, described as vibrant and striking in color, style and texture, is featured in juried exhibitions on National and International levels, including the 16th Annual Pastel 100 Competition where she received an Honorable Mention Award. Neva’s work has also been featured in the Pastel Society of America’s 2014 and 2018 Annual Juried Exhibits “Enduring Brilliance” at the National Arts Club in New York, NY and in the prestigious IAPS 2016, 2018 and 2020 Juried Exhibitions. Neva was invited to participate in the Annual International Contemporary Art Exhibitions organized and offered by Art Residence Pro Vobis—Assisi, where her paintings were featured in the Sala della Volte in Piazza del Comune, Assisi, Italy.  She recently held her first solo exhibition at The Nave Museum in Victoria, Texas. Neva is an active member of the Pastel Society of America, the Pastel Guild of Europe, and the Degas Pastel Society, and has been selected to the distinct honor of Associate Artist representing Unison Colour Soft Pastels in Northumberland, UK. Neva currently resides with her husband, Rick, in the Coastal Bend Region of Texas, where she spends her time reading, gardening, travelling and, of course, painting.
