Capturing the Coast – Impressionist Color and Light
Learn to quickly capture your first impression by seeing in terms of big shapes and value relationships. We will explore color harmony, edges, and varied brushwork to create impressionist style paintings full of color and light.
Students will use oil (acrylic/other mediums welcome) to paint from photo reference. They will have a choice of many of Robin's own photographs or may bring their own. We will take a trip outdoors for reference and a quick paint sketch (weather permitting.)
This three day workshop is designed for students of all skill levels. Robin will do a short presentation and demo each day and then spend the remainder working with students individually at their level.

About the Instructor
A contemporary impressionist: Robin is driven by a passionate desire to capture the essence of light and life. Responding to her first impressions with loose, textural brushwork, Robin's paintings share the often overlooked moments of daily life. In this often hectic world, her work invites viewers to be mindful and aware of the gift of being in the moment.
Drawn to creative pursuits since childhood, Robin found art to be a great unifier as her family frequently relocated. Earning her B.A. from Virginia Tech, Robin worked in graphic arts and web design for a decade. Serious fine art study under mentors like Elizabeth Locke, Kim English and Quang Ho set her on the path to success when she became a full-time artist in 2000. Making her home now in Austin, Texas, the artist is an active member of her local art community, teaching online and local weekly painting classes and workshops. Her instructional video “Brushwork Secrets Unleashed” is available from Streamline Art Video. She is a signature member of the American Impressionist Society and artist member of the Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists, National Oil and Acrylic Painters, and the Austin Visual Arts Association. Robin is a founding member of Plein Air Austin and has won awards of excellence in both plein air competitions and juried art shows. Her work is collected worldwide.
