Before we open...

A Message from Stan Smith, Board President

Dear Members of the Art Association,

Much has been written lately about where we are with the capital project.

If you drive down there today, you will see that a great portion of the landscaping has been done.  The landscape architect for the project is adla, inc. of Corpus Christi.  Turn to Luis’ column to learn what is happening with sculpture placement.

Before we are able to get a Certificate of Occupancy from our partner in the project, the City of Rockport; three things have to happen: 1) handrails have to be installed; 2) the elevator has to be certified by the State of Texas; and a full insurance package has to be in place.

Handrails for the campus. Shop drawings have been approved and fabrication has started.  Once fabrication is complete the handrails will be shipped to a galvanizer in San Antonio and then brought to the construction site for installation later this month.

Elevator. Installation of the elevator is complete, as are all of the technical areas that the subcontractor needs to have done in order to schedule the State inspection.  The inspection is scheduled for tomorrow.

Insurance.  An ISO inspection of the roof structures and its construction materials was conducted this afternoon. This will commence the process of transitioning the building from builder’s risk insurance under Teal Construction Company to windstorm, flood and hazard insurance under the Art Center.

Five years, one month and six days have passed since Hurricane Harvey took a hit on Rockport.  Since that time, we have worked tirelessly on the capital project.  Thank you for hanging-in with us and for your continued patronage as we start to execute the long awaited relocation.
