The five winning Merit Artists in the 2006 Currents Exhibition, featuring the work of members of the Rockport Center for the Arts, were announced at the opening reception on Saturday, December 9th. They are: Shirley Blackman: mixed-water media; Sharon Forsythe: acrylic/graphite; Bonnie Prouty: acrylic-layered collage; Anne Molkentin: acrylic; and Barry Brown: clay.

The annual “Currents” Exhibition, featuring the work of members of the Rockport Center for the Arts, will be held December 6 – December 29 at the Center, which is located at 902 Navigation Circle. The exhibit will feature an array of media including sculptures, watercolors, oils and photography. Last year, over 100 artists participated in the exhibition.

Rockport Center for the Arts is pleased to welcome Larry Felder as Associate Director. We look forward to Larry’s contributions in the area of exhibitions, marketing, graphic design and strategic planning.

The Ernest de Soto exhibit and master workshop are being held at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. This is a special project with the Mexic-Arte Museum, Austin, Texas. The exhibit runs from October 10 - November 3/2006 with the Opening Reception on October 10, 6 p.m. The Master Workshop is being offered October 10 & 11/2006 from 9 a.m. - 12 a.m. For more information contact 361.593.2619 or email kfddf00@tamuk.edu. Check out the Corpus Christi Caller Times for articles on AMST's opening. Within the Museum there is a 17 piece exhibit of small works by the South Texas Art League, juried by Bill Otton. This opens October 8th from 1 - 5 pm. The STAL exhibit is at the back of the Chapman Gallery in the new wing. Look for a work in the STAL exhibit by Marthe Minford Meas, one of our artist instructors.

CC Symphony Orchestra has their Season Premiere with Sarah Chang, Violin on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at 8 p.m. This event is being held at the spectacular Performing Arts Center at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
